Here are some suggestions on what to try when a screenshot on Mac not working:
- Restart your Mac – many people don’t restart their computers for hours or days, and that can affect the performance of your Mac. So, turn it off and turn it back on. This will improve its performance, it will provide a memory boost, and it will close a bunch of unnecessary apps and processes that were running in the background.
- Screenshot destination – the next stop would be to check the screenshot destination. The desktop is a destination set as default, but you might have changed it and you may think your Mac didn’t take a screenshot, and the screenshots were in a different place all along. You can check the destination on the floating menu bar. In addition, the screenshots could be saved in Dropbox (if you have it on your Mac), instead of on your computer.
- Keyboard shortcuts – perhaps you disabled some of the keyboard shortcuts. Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts. Check if some of the shortcuts are turned off and if they are turn them on.
